DISPEL DARKNESS

RAJEEV MALIK –“India’s economic reforms remain a story of incremental changes at a glacial pace.”

RAJENDRA PRASAD –“It is not altogether impossible for man to achieve happiness without the usual paraphernalia, which passes for his everyday necessities… It was by practising ‘simple living and high thinking’ that Mahatma Gandhi could enjoy that happiness which a humble follower of his is unable to have even in the palatial Rashtrapati Bhavan. Let us be sure that our will to progress and rise high will materialise in the true sense only after we have realised that the source of our happiness does not lie outside us but is enshrined within our own: hearts.” (1st PRESTDEN)

RALPH ELLISON –“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.”

RALPH MARSTON –“Don’t lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality.”

RALPH T FLEWELLING –“We cannot impose our will on nature unless we first ascertain what her will is. Working without regard to law brings nothing but failure; working with law enables us to do what seemed at first impossible.”

RALPH W SOCKMAN –“The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.”

RALPH W. EMERSON –“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.”

RAM CHANDRA –“The hard and fast rules of life and tiring practices prescribed by teachers for realization have really made matters so complicated that people are led to believe it to be beyond their power and capacity… Iron will to achieve the goal together with proper means and guidance is the only thing required for complete success.”

RAM DAS –“Ramdas from his own experience can boldly assert that there is God. Until you yourself get the experience, it is natural that you should deny Him. But a time will come when you too will have faith in Him.”

RAM DAS –“The only way to control the mind and free it from the evils you mention is always to take the Name of God, meditate upon His great attributes and surrender all your actions to Him.”

Ego means self-esteem, pride, vanity etc. To lead a successful worldly life, self-esteem is a positive virtue, but vanity is a negative quality for spiritual practice, ego is the barrier and should be crushed.”

RAMA DAS –“First a person should learn to lead a life of righteousness, discharge one’s duties to self and neighbours and then think of the other (spiritual) side of life. One who strives to establish Dharma is alone a godly person.”

RAMCHANDRA GANDHI –“Only when we misconstrue nothingness as a limitless something, and misconstrue ourselves as limited things, Buddha says, does nothingness appear to us as a devouring, annihilatory, malevolence. Nihilism and egotism preached by Keshakambalin and Goshala are merely caricatures of Nirvana and self-realisation… A rediscovery of pauranika wisdom in general may close the gap between life and thought, aboriginality and advaita (so that) the embrace of Guha and Rama becomes visible and intelligible and irresistible again… “

RAMCHANDRA GANDHI –“We don’t know what our birth is like, we don’t know death, but everyone remembers his childhood and associated with childhood is the feminine figure, a mother or a dai. We have forgotten the girl child as being the reflection of the Atman.”

RAMESH MANOCHA –“Dharma is our true place in the cosmic process: in time, space, awareness, thought, deed and desire…. By this we attain balance.”

REBEKAH FAITH –“When you have an idea in your head, you have created. When you write it down, you give it the breath of life. When an idea is free, it lives. You have created. It is exponentially easier to destroy than create. The cycle is an endless one. One destruction dominoes to another, one creation creates another it is an endless cycle—from the beginning of time until the end. REINHOLD NIEBUHR –“Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime, Therefore, we are saved by hope. Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; Therefore, we are saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone. ROBIN S SHARMA –“A new question has arisen in modern man’s mind, the question, namely, whether life is worth living… No sensible answer can be given to the question…because the question does not make any sense. Discipline ‘tough love’ because getting tough with yourself is actually a very loving gesture… The tougher you are on yourself, the easier life will be on you… When you consistently flex your will power by making choices that you know are the right ones — rather than the easy ones— you take control of your life. The Ultimate Guide to Buying a Palm Tree Floor Lamp

A palm tree floor lamp would be a wonderful addition to any living area or patio. It doesn’t just provide a nice glow for your home or patio, but it is also a great conversational piece for your guests. Here’s a guide to choosing your very own palm tree floor lamp.

First of all, palm tree floor Lamps can be either custom-made or bought from a specialty shop. There are several designs available when it comes to palm tree floor lamps. There are lamps made of rattan, bronze and brass.

A palm tree floor lamp may consist of rattan poles tied together for that realistic palm tree look or bronze moulds and cuttings for a more elegant and unique look. There are even floor lamps that have more than one palm tree. Palm tree floor lamps may either have their own stand or come with a box at the bottom for support. A typical palm tree floor lamp has an elongated post that resembles a real palm tree’s bark, fake leaves, support at the bottom and coconut-like casings as lighting fixtures.

There are lots of special features you may find in a palm tree floor lamp. You may find one with adjustable leaves. There are some that are simply molded into shape and others meticulously put together and carved.

There are many colors available for you to choose from. There are green, chocolate brown, ivory, yellow, red and orange palm tree floor lamps. Colors can also be combined together in one lamp. The post and coconuts may be brown and the fake leaves green.

The color and style of your palm tree floor lamp will depend on your home interiors and personal taste. To complete a tropical-inspired space, choose a lamp that looks natural such as one with green fake leaves and a post with earthy colors such as dark brown and beige. If you want the lamp to stand out a bit more but still match the space, choose a brass or bronze lamp, which adds a bit of sophistication. For something quirky that completely stands out, choose a brightly colored lamp.

Many palm tree floor lamps are designed for the outdoors. If you want to place a palm tree floor lamp outdoors, make sure it is weatherproof. Oftentimes those that are weatherproof have steel trunks. The height of palm tree floor lamps ranges from 8 to 20 inches. Taller ones are always great for the outdoors.

When it comes to the actual lighting, consider the light bulbs. Bulbs may be attached at the bottom of the palm tree floor lamp, which can light up the whole tree. They may also be attached somewhere at the top under the leaves, which is a typical feature in palm tree floor lamps.

Lighting may be colored or plain. Incandescent light bulbs are great if you want a nice, bright glow. An alternative is the LED bulb, which has a whiter glow and consumes less electricity.

Palm tree floor lamps are generally more expensive than regular floor lamps. However, they are extremely durable and one of a kind. There are also discount palm tree floor Lamps Online. So choose your palm tree floor lamp wisely. Pricing ranges from $100 to over $200. There may be 2 weeks waiting time for production and shipping depending on which company you go with.

Touch Lamps Faults

Posted by: admin    in Bedside Table Lamps

touch lamps faults

The Importance Of Electrical Safety

In electrical injuries there are four main types of injuries: electrocution (will cause death), electric shock, burns, and falls. These injuries can come from direct contact with the electrical energy, electrical arcs that jumps to a person who is grounded, thermal burns including flash burns from heat generated by an electric arc, flame burns from materials that catch on fire from heating or ignition by electrical currents, and muscle contractions can cause a person to fall. The fall can cause serious injuries also. High voltage contact burns can burn internal tissues while leaving only very small injuries on the outside of the skin.
There are some safeguard procedures that can be followed to ensure electrical safety:
1) Inspect tools, power cords, and electrical fittings for damage or wear prior to each use. Repair or replace damaged equipment immediately.
2) Always tape cords to walls or floors when necessary. Nails and staples can damage cords causing fire and shock hazards.
3) Use cords or equipment that is rated for the level of amperage or wattage that you are using.
4) Always use the correct size fuse. Replacing a fuse with one of a larger size can cause excessive currents in the wiring and possibly start a fire.
5) Be aware that unusually warm or hot outlets may be a sign that unsafe wiring conditions exists. Unplug any cords to these outlets and do not use until a qualified electrician has checked the wiring.
6) Always use ladders made of wood or other non-conductive materials when working with or near electricity or power lines.
7) Place halogen lights away from combustible materials such as cloths or curtains. Halogen Lamps can become very hot and may be a fire hazard.
8) Risk of electric shock is greater in areas that are wet or damp. Install Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters, known also as GFCI, as they will interrupt the electrical circuit before a current sufficient to cause death or serious injury occurs.
9) Make sure that exposed receptacle boxes are made of non-conductive materials.
10) Know where the breakers and boxes are located in case of an emergency.
11) Label all circuit breakers and fuse boxes clearly. Each switch should be positively identified as to which outlet or appliance it is for.
12) Do not use outlets or cords that have exposed wiring or use power tools with the guards removed. Do not block access to circuit breakers or fuse boxes and do not touch a person or electrical apparatus in the event of an electrical accident. Always disconnect the current first.
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) works by detecting any loss of electrical current in a circuit. When a loss is detected, the GFCI turns the electricity off before severe injuries or electrocution can occur. A painful shock may occur during the time that it takes for the GFCI to cut off the electricity so it is important to use the GFCI as an extra protective measure rather than a replacement for safe work practices.
GFCI wall outlets can be installed in place of standard outlets to protect against electrocution for just that outlet, or a series of outlets in the same branch. A GFCI Circuit Breaker can be installed on some circuit breaker electrical panels to protect an entire branch circuit. Plug-in GFCIs can be plugged into wall outlets where appliances will be used and are commonly found in bathrooms. Another common use for GFCI is for pools and hot tubs.
Test the GFCI monthly. First plug a “night light” or lamp into the GFCI-protected wall outlet (the light should be turned on), then press the “TEST” button on the GFCI. If the GFCI is working properly, the light should go out. If not, have the GFCI repaired or replaced. Reset the GFCI to restore power. If the “RESET” button pops out but the light does not go out, the GFCI has been improperly wired and does not offer shock protection at that wall outlet. Contact a qualified electrician to correct any wiring errors.
Power tools used incorrectly can electrically hazardous. Switch tools OFF before connecting them to a power supply. Disconnect power supply before making adjustments. Ensure tools are properly grounded or double-insulated. The grounded tool must have an approved 3-wire cord with a 3-prong plug. This plug should be plugged in a properly grounded 3-pole outlet. Do not use electrical tools in wet conditions or damp locations unless tool is connected to a GFCI. The operation of power tools might ignite flammable substances and in can cause an explosion near certain vapors and gases.
Never use extension cords as permanent wiring. Use extension cords only to temporarily supply power to an area that does not have a power outlet. Keep power cords away from heat, water and oil. They can damage the insulation and cause a shock. Do not allow vehicles to pass over unprotected power cords. Cords should be put in conduit or protected by placing planks alongside them. Check power cords and plugs daily; discard if worn or damaged. Keep power cords clear of tools during use.
Extension cords themselves can be hazardous. Suspend power cords over aisles or work areas to eliminate stumbling or tripping hazards. Do not tie power cords in tight knots; knots can cause short circuits and shocks. Loop the cords or use a twist lock plug. Many circuits are wired to twelve amp breakers so do not plug several extension cords into one outlet.
Electrical safety is simple. Electricity should be respected and precautions should be taken to prevent injuries. Safety devises are becoming safer each year; its up to you to use them correctly. Be aware and be safe.

Table Manners

Dogs 101 Part 20 – How To Teach Table Manners To Your Dog?

Teaching Tommy etiquette is your responsibility, and you just need to remember one rule : Don’t feed the dog from the table. This idea sounds a lot faster than it is, particularly in a multiperson household.

Likewise , do not put down your dog’s capability to coach you. Each time you reward your dog’s efforts with a treat from the table, you are methodically teaching him not to take “no” for a solution.

When Tommy was a puppy, nobody thought much about often slipping him something from the table. But now he’s six months old, virtually absolutely grown, and has begun to beg at the table.

Because his begging is not lovable and is humiliating when you have guests, the family resolves to put a stop to it.

Initially, Tommy doesn’t believe you are serious ; of course, you were the person that started it in the 1st place. He digs a touch deeper into his repertoire of begging routines.

He may sit up, poke you, paw you, or whine in the most pathetic tone like he is near death’s door from starvation.

Concentrating on inflection : Give commands in a standard tone of voice. For instance, when giving the “Sit” command, remember that it’s “Sit!” – the command – and not “Sit?” – the question.

When releasing, say the release word in a more excited tone of voice, as in “That’s it, you’re all done!” Unless diminished, a dog’s sense of hearing is very acute, and when giving a command, there’s absolutely no necessity to roar.

Actually, the opposite is true – the more silently you give your commands, the faster your dog learns to be aware of you. As this eventuality repeats itself, regularly with longer intervals before somebody gives in, Tommy is systematically being taught to persist at all cost and never give up.

Taking a look at it from his viewpoint, you are rewarding, even inspiring, the behavior you need to stop. When you stop rewarding the undesired behavior ( begging ), your dog will stop begging at the table.

As quickly as you stop giving in to Tommy, his efforts will lower, till over time, and provided you do not have a relapse, he’ll stop begging altogether. In technical language, you have extinguished the undesired behavior by refusing to reward it.

Tiffany Lamps

Posted by: admin    in Crystal Table Lamps

tiffany lamps

Is This an Original Tiffany Lamp?

Tiffany Lamps, generally, is the term for Tiffany Style Lamps, Tiffany reproduction lamps, and the original Tiffany Lamps made by the Tiffany Studios, New York. Original Tiffany lamps are made by the Tiffany Studios New York in late 1800s and early 1900s. In 1932, Tiffany studios went bankrupt and all assets were liquidated (an original Tiffany lamp would be dated between 1900 and 1932).

    • Tiffany reproduction lamps are reproductions of the original Tiffany lamps.
    • Tiffany style lamps are Stained Glass Lamps inspired by the original Tiffany lamps and other stained glass and Art Nouveau subjects.

These stained glass lamps have many components and have shades containing many pieces of stained glass held together by a soldered web of copper. Some stained glass lamps have stained glass bases as well, but most are bronze.

An artist first, Louis Comfort Tiffany would always look for some new techniques in order to develop a unique process for formulating stained glass. In turn, he created bolder colors, opalescent sheens and a broader range of textures for artisans. As a result he patented four new types of glass over a 20-year period and individually kept working with teams of craftsmen to manufacture stained glass windows, lamps, and lamp bases. The lamps, as well as all other Tiffany objects were exclusively designed either by Tiffany himself or by artists working under his direct supervision. Most commonly the bases of the lamps were made in the form of fine sculptures using bronze.

    Get in the Know
Determining authenticity of Tiffany lamps is complex. Tiffany’s marks and marking systems changed over the years. Some are clear, but others are obscure. Pieces aren’t always signed or retain their original identification. Some have had unauthentic markings added. Original Tiffany lamps bear the company’s name and perhaps a reference number. Some have original paper labels. Shades were also marked with a bronze pad. It’s possible that a specific Tiffany signatures can be found pressed into the metal rim of the lamp’s shade, which were sometimes signed Tiffany and Co., but were usually signed Tiffany Studios. Every lamp and shade was assigned with a model number to facilitate the filling of orders

Antique Glass Lamp Shades The Ideal Way Transform Your Home

Investing in antique glass lamp shades is usually a wonderful approach to give your own home that nostalgic look you have been after. Exchanging a well used boring, cloth shade by way of an art deco, Victorian, or beautiful hand painted lamp shade is undoubtedly such a simple procedure that can leave behind a splendidly notable difference that could lead you room by room, all through your house, upgrading every last lamp shade you find.

The particular design and style choices with antique glass lamp shades go on forever. Even if you are going to get a rustic look and feel, romantic, or simply elegant you should have simply no difficulty choosing just what exactly you are trying to find. One must measure your lamp base plus your existing shade if available.

You will make use of these measurements to find out whether or not the antique glass lamp shade is going to be wide enough, or way too wide, for your lamp base. Generally you may try to match your antique glass shade dimensions along with your current lamp shade dimensions.

You will also have to pay close attention to your Lamps procedure for fastening the lamp shade. A lot of lamps have a “harp”, that’s a piece of metal which bends round each side of the bulb of which the shade rests upon and is then secured with a threaded “finial”.

Various other lamps require a shade which attaches at the base of the bulb, essentially being kept in place by the bulb. A further type of lamp calls for a shade of which clips directly to the body of the bulb, nonetheless a small number antique glass lamp shades utilize this technique.

You’ll find glass shades for floor lamps also, but this particular style lamp can’t accommodate just any shade. You have got to make certain your chosen glass shade is going to balance correctly and safely on the floor lamp.

Try to get just as much product information as you can, along with images, of the actual antique glass lamp shades you are interested. Compare dimensions together with your existing lamp shades plus, if possible, email or even talk with a specialist at the dealership and explain to them what you have in addition to what precisely you are seeking. No one wants to get stuck packaging and returning antique glass goods when they do not have to.

A Walk Along Kingston Road To Discover A Wealth Of Creativity And Shopping Choices

My recent history tour with Gene Domagala through the eastern and northern part of the Beach introduced me to the Kingston Road area and the historic significance that it played in the development of East Toronto. Gene also introduced me to Carolyn Pitre who helps to run the Kingston Road Business Community. Through an interview with Carolyn I discovered that the Kingston Road area between Main Street and Victoria Park Avenue is an interesting and diverse shopping district on its own right, so this sunny Saturday morning I set out to discover some of the merchants and products on offer along Kingston Road.

The first place I visited is housed in a beautifully renovated former movie theatre; gorgeous picture windows light up the tasteful interior of Memories Now and Then, a high-end consignment store owned by Nadine Steinberg. Nadine welcomed me to her store and explained that her store features select pre-owned furniture, rugs, china, Lamps as well as vintage jewelry. She added that all the pieces that she carries are upscale and hand-picked.

Nadine has many years of experience in the china, crystal and silver retail business. Her mother and sister have been in the antique business for many years, so Nadine’s love for high-quality items with a history was kindled a long time ago. She likes that the pieces she chooses are in good condition and well taken care of, and her store is an opportunity for her customers to see attractive home décor items that have stood the test of time. Memories Now and Then is very spacious, and tasteful displays are set up on three levels: the basement, the main floor and a second storey gallery that was especially created for Nadine by her landlord when she first bought the store. Nadine adds that her customers come in from areas such as Rosedale, Forest Hill and North York, and many of them have been referred to her by word of mouth.

I continued my stroll along Kingston Road and dropped in at the Pegasus Community Thrift Store, run by volunteers for the Pegasus Community Project for Adults with Special Needs. Marie Perrotta, the founder and executive director of this non-profit organization, was in the store together with a volunteer. I had already had the chance to meet Marie on previous occasions and was deeply impressed by her organization and her dedication to adults with special needs. During the week adults with disabilities run the store, assisted by staff and volunteers. The store’s merchandise includes items produced by the program participants, including hand-made greeting cards, soup and cookie mixes and bookmarks.

On the weekend a variety of volunteers come out from the community to help. Naomi Drayton told me that she regularly volunteers for Pegasus. Every Saturday she comes in for a few hours. She mentioned that she has a young daughter, and her volunteering at Pegasus gives her a great opportunity to get out of the house and socialize with people from the community. In addition, she does it for a good cause since all the sales revenue generated in the thrift store goes towards the Pegasus Community Project.

Naomi used to live in a small town outside of Toronto and just moved to the Beach about a year ago. She loves the area and enjoys all the thrift shops along Kingston Road and does most of her shopping around here. Naomi added that she is going to be living in this area for a long time and she wants her daughter to grow up in the Beach.

Another person in the store piped up and said “I just opened a store a few doors down. Why don’t you come visit me too?” So I decided to pop in at Flip a few steps west of the Pegasus Community Thrift Store. The owner Fiona Bramzell and her five year old daughter Paige greeted me warmly. Fiona, originally from England, opened her store last November. Flip is a consignment store that features used clothing for children from newborns to twelve year olds. In addition, it also carries some clothing items for adults.

For now Fiona’s store is open three days a week while Fiona still holds down another part-time job at Savoury Grounds Coffee Company, a popular coffee shop in the area. But she is planning to open six days a week in the near future. In addition, she is currently applying to become a copy editor for Harlequin Publishing and added that she has written several non-fiction articles for different websites. She also regularly recaps reality TV shows for a website called www.realityshack.com. Fiona definitely has an interesting mix of talents and hopes to be able to soon dedicate more time to her retail store in the near future.

My next visit was to the Farmer’s Daughter in the Pantry, a specialty store that offers farm-fresh hand selected produce, pre-made meals and desserts, as well as freshly baked organic breads loaves and baked goods. Specialty products also include home-made jams, jellies, salsas, chutneys, fresh dips and spreads. Michelle Shabatura literally IS “the farmer’s daughter” – she grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm in Southwestern Ontario, and with the help of her family she still operates a 4-acre pesticide free field on the farm in a small town called Waterford.

Her store has been open for almost two years: the doors opened on May 13, 2005, and since then Farmer’s Daughter has become immensely popular in the neighbourhood. Michelle mentioned that her customers’ needs dictate the product line that she carries. Many local residents, including busy professionals and retirees, come to her store to purchase prepared foods, and she is in the process of developing an entire weekly meal program that will include prepared meals for every day of the week that can be picked up from the store. The weekly meal program will include a selection of fresh fruits as well.

    Html Table Font Size Css

Posted by: admin    in Bedside Table Lamps

    html table font size css

What are Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Cascading Style Sheets, also known as CSS, are the most popular and neat way of formatting an html page.

There are two versions of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). CSS Level 1 was launched in 1996 and is supported by all browsers. This version is the older of the two and is used mostly for font formatting, text alignment and line spacing.

CSS version 2 came out in 1998. This one is a lot more powerful than its predecessor allowing you not only to format text but also to position elements on your web page. This version of CSS is so powerful that all good web designers use it instead of using html tables.

The word Cascading reflects how style sheets work. An Html document can be linked to several style sheets, for example it could be linked to 2 sheets, an internal style sheet (styles within the head tag of a html document) and an external style sheet (a .css document).

An important aspect of Cascading Style Sheets is the operation of inheritance. If a certain aspect of formatting is not specified for a child element, it will inherit the formatting of its parent element.

When you use CSS, you can avoid the use of most html format tags making your code much easier to read. Here’s an example:

If we want to have a Blue size 12pt title at the start of a every article on our web site we would have something like this in our html code:

    title

You might be thinking “that doesn’t look too bad”… but what happens if you have 50 titles throughout your site? You would have to repeat this process over and over again, and you will be at risk of using different formats for your titles and by doing so breaking the consistency of your design. Not only that, if you decide to change the color or font of all your titles you would have to go through the process of changing all 50 font tags…

Here’s when CSS comes in handy!!! Instead of using font tags for my titles I would use this:

In a separate .css document I would add a new style called “titles”. It would look something like this:

    .title { font-size 12pt; color:blue;}

and in my html I would replace my font tags with:

    Title

And voila!!! All titles that are within the titles class will be formatted in the same way. The beauty of style sheets is that they can be linked to as many web pages as you want making the whole process of adding more content to you site a whole lot easier.
