So a white tiger rug

Get a folding screen that you can put the muted grey fabric in
A beige/burlap colored comforter with a red throw at the bottom
A Huge mirror with a gold Frame …you can get trim at the home improvement stores and paint it gold metallic with the Ralph lauren paint.
If you can fit a small round table dressed in black velvet with a white satin topper and a vase with pink silk roses
If you go with a wallpaper use a muted textured grey

Antique Lighting – Very Rare, Mid 18th Century, French Faience Table Lamp

The French 18th century saw the full flowering of decorative art and France led the rest of Europe in artistic expression and high style.  It was in the region of Marseille that saw the production of some of the most beautiful examples of French faience.  “Faience” being the French name for tin glazed earthenware,

known to the Dutch and English as “Delft” and “Majolica” in Italy.

One of the most outstanding of these manufactories was opened in 1740 by Claude Perrin (1696-1748) & when he died in 1748 it was his widow,

Madame Pierrette Candelot, who took over the management of production. This alone, in the middle of the 18th century, was considered highly unusual.

Under her leadership production flourished, especially the quality of the flower painting.  With outstanding foresight Madam Perrin enrolled her faience painters in French art academies to develop and refine the elegant style of flower painting that we can see today.  Painting on faience was notoriously difficult, the painter using the glazed faïence surface as the canvas.

The French 18th century was the century of the Rococo and floral painting was expressed in this beautiful style.

The style known as “Décor Floral Naturaliste le Grand Fleur” is naturalistic, although not botanical, informal and yet with a sense of formality.  Flower painting of loose bouquets of summer flowers, small sprays and sprigs, quite often with moths and butterflies, ladybirds and caterpillars and it is known that many of the painters picked bunches of flowers on the way to work as models for the day.

The majority of pieces produced are marked with the letters “VP” the initials for the French “Veuve Perrin” which means Perrin’s widow.  Madame Perrin died in 1793 and production continued, although in decline until 1803.

The manufactory struggled through the violence of the French revolution which finally saw the collapse of the Rococo “Déco Floral”.

“A very rare, mid 18th century, French Faience vase as a table lamp of great charm.  This is an early example of the Faience of Claude Perrin of Marseille.

The lamp delicately painted in a bright palette of enamels with a large loose bouquet of summer flowers and garden insects. The flowers include pink and yellow roses, forget-me-nots, daisies and morning glory. The lamp on a 19th century French ormolu base of Rococo style.”

These summer flowers are 260 years old and still as fresh as the summer of 1750!

Veuve Perrin –   Louis VX -  Circa 1750  Overall height  22″/56cm

Floor Lamp With Table

Guidelines in Buying the Perfect Floor Lamp With Table

By and large, the first thing that people look into in buying a floor lamp with table is the color and appearance, and how it would match the wallpaper or theme of the house. But, what is not known to the common public is that there are more factors to consider other than the color in buying a floor lamp with table.

An important aspect in every household is lighting. Nowadays, there are many lighting options available, including Lamps of all shapes and sizes. There are lamps that serve the purpose of lighting, and there are also some that serve as pure ornament. The floor lamp with table is not just to be considered as an ornament, but also as a very functional, versatile, and flexible piece. It can illuminate the room and at the same time, it serves as a table. Space is then maximized and costs are reduced. You wouldn’t have to buy another piece – it’s light and furniture in one.

In addition, a floor lamp with table offers higher levels of illumination when compared to Table Lamps since its purpose is to provide as much possible light to a certain room.

In going about buying a floor lamp with table, there are certain guidelines you can follow. Some of them include:

- Setting

Decide where you’re going to place your floor lamp with table and consider the surrounding furniture. It should not be crowded and there should be enough room to move around. For you to maximize space, get one that takes up little floor space. Also, keep in mind that it is better if your floor lamp will match the interior, wallpaper, and theme of your home.

- Illumination

A floor lamp can either lighten the whole room or just parts of it. For this reason, you should be able to identify the amount of light you need, and the power of light bulbs. You can also opt for a floor lamp with adjustable lighting, in order for it to become more flexible. If you want to save energy, you can choose to power just specific working areas like cooking, grooming, and reading/writing areas. This is called task lighting.

- Power

If you want to illuminate the whole room instead of just parts of it, you can buy a floor lamp with table that uses higher power bulbs. This is so that you get more illumination compared to lower power bulbs. However, to ensure your safety, you should make sure never to use a higher wattage bulb than what is recommended in the fixture. It is best if you predetermine the strength of lighting you need so you can get a lamp that has bulbs with suited power levels. Never force a higher wattage bulb on a lamp that requires minimal wattage.

Generally, a floor lamp with table is best for you if you want to save space in your room, and if you want to reduce costs by not buying additional furniture. It not only serves as a lighting piece, but also as a table. It is indeed a very innovative idea.

Garden And Patio Decorations For Great Outdoor Living

Think about garden and patio decorations just as you would if you were designing a room in your home. We always hear of interior decorating, so now think about exterior decorating! A well-decorated patio can have sitting areas, dining areas, and center pieces. Because you’re outdoors, garden and patio decorations let you become creative in really fun ways.

The garden decor you select will give your outdoor “rooms” style and character… so go with what appeals to you. Are you formal and elegant, or informal and casual? Whatever approach you take, keep in mind that too many garden and patio decorations will give you a crowded look. Plants and flowers should play just as big a role in your decor as structures and furnishings… let them compliment each other.

Visualize Key Furnishings

First, envision your patio, deck or garden area. Plan out a few different layouts for the main, larger decor items that will need to fit within your space. These would be chairs, benches, tables, and grilling or cooking stations. If you work at home, you can even design an outdoor “work station” for your laptop and office work.

Weather-proofed wicker, wrought iron, cedar, or teak garden furniture are excellent choices for patio and garden furnishings. Functionality is important, but go for comfort and style, too!

There are some great designs in outdoor patio furniture, guaranteed to fit your personal style. Make sure what you buy is very durable and weatherproof, since your furniture will be exposed to sun, wind and rain. Be patient and shop for the most attractive furniture that meets these standards and you’ll save money in the end.

Outdoor Lighting Sets the Mood

Once you identify your main furniture pieces, add even more atmosphere to your garden and patio with outdoor lighting. Lighting arrangements can change the entire feel of your outdoor area. You can go for festive, subdued, ornamental, warm, or bright!

Outdoor patio lights are made to endure all the elements, and feature insulated and weather-resistant components. There are quite a few styles you can choose from. The possibilities include freestanding Lamps, Table Lamps, shaded and globe lamps, lanterns, umbrella lights, BBQ lights, string lights, and ground lights. Shop around for what appeals to you, as well as what’s practical for your purpose.

Choose Your Accents

There are no rules to garden and patio decorations… and lots of choices! Here are some great accents that will add life and charm to any yard:

Garden Benches: Have you ever noticed a rustic bench placed “just right” in a garden? It’s a very inviting sight. It doesn’t need to be fancy… just a spot to sit down and relax.

Decorative Planters: To create a pleasing focal point, set out a few planters filled with beautiful flowers in different areas of your garden. You can move them around, and replant them with different flowers as the season goes by. These are perfect for the patio, too.

Don’t forget, an old container you have lying around can easily be tuned into a planter – perhaps an old watering can or a pickle barrel. All they need is some form of drainage. Try one or two planters and see the difference they make!

Garden Fountains: Fountains add a great deal of atmosphere to any garden setting. The varieties range from grand fountains made of stone or bronze, to modest and charming garden fountain kits. Garden fountains have such a pleasant, tranquil sound that their beautiful effect is immediate and captivating.

Garden Sculptures: Garden statuary is usually made of bronze, marble, stone, wood, or resin. Choose themes from cherubs and saints to deer, rabbits and frogs. Garden sculptures can really develop your garden theme, and are great fun to design with! Tuck them into a corner, or display them openly as a main focal point.

Sundials: This ancient device has brought beauty and charm to thousands of gardens. Sundials are terrific accent pieces and come in different designs, such as tabletop and pedestal. Some sundials double as birdbaths!

Garden and patio decorations can be as elaborate or quaint as you wish. Simply keep in mind it’s just like fixing up a room in your home – when you like what you see, you’ve added your own personal signature to your outdoor living place!

How To Rewire A Table Lamp

Lamps have a common place in the living room, bedroom or study room. These normally stay in their respective places for years. Sometimes, when these lamps are not used, the normal circuitry and wirings are affected for some reasons. Also, when lamps have been stored for long in the attic or basement, there can be problems with the connections and there will be a need to repair or rewire in case you need to use them again.

When you have a lamp that is not worth throwing or giving away because of some sentimental reasons or because of the style or whatever reason, it is best to know how to restore and reuse your lamp and display it again prominently in a strategic spot in your home. If you need to restore and rewire your lamp, you just have to exert a little effort and spend some time to give that lamp its life back again. The following are the steps that you can follow, to rewire your lamp.

Step #1 Disassemble your table lamp and put all the pieces in a secure place. Make sure that the screws and nails are kept in a place for easy retrieval.

Step #2 Wipe off the dust in the different lamp pieces. Use a clean cloth for this purpose. Make sure that you have thoroughly dusted off each part. It is not advisable to use a wet cloth for cleaning. This can attract corrosion.

Step #3 Get rid of the old wiring system and prepare the wiring kit for replacement. Set aside the old wiring system. You can discard it so that it will no longer be considered for future use. Most likely, the wirings are already faulty and it is not good to keep these in your electrical kit. You better throw it away and ensure the safety of your family.

Step #4 Strip and twist the wires using a clockwise motion. Do this carefully as this can cause scratches in your hand. Better yet, use a wire twister to protect your hands from scratches or blisters.

Step #5 Thread these wires into the middle tubing part of your lamp and secure the socket unit. Do this until the wires are out of the base of the lamp.

Step #6 Connect the wires of the kit to the electrical wiring and again, twist the wires in a clockwise motion. Use an electrical tape to make sure that the wires are not exposed and to ensure security.

Step #7 Put the light bulb in the lamp socket. Test the connection. Make sure that the wirings are connected securely. After this, you can put the lamp shade on.

By doing these simple steps, you can restore your old lamp by just a few rewiring methods. With regard to the look, you can always re-varnish wooden lamps or wipe ceramic ones. There are many things that you can do to have your beautiful piece of lamp have its spot again in your home or room.

Contemporary Table Lamp

contemporary table lamp
Is it okay to mix contemporary furniture with traditional furniture?

I have a lamp Table, sofa table, couch and 2 lazy boys in my living room, which are all traditional in style. The tables are a cherry color. I mounted a flat screen on the wall and want to put a media center under it. The one I’m looking at is a contemporary style and a darker color/almost black. Is it okay to do this or would it look funny?

If it’s a media center, I don’t think it would be that much of a home decor faux pas to have a modern design. I mean, just having a flat screen TV in the room automatically clashes with the traditional furniture. That’s like wondering if having a computer in the room will clash with traditional furniture. Well, unless the furniture was designed in the last 10 years or so, yes. But, you have no choice.

you may want to look at the choices on that site.

Porcelain Table Lamp

   Posted by: admin

porcelain table lamp
Looking for on-line site to identify Table Lamp from 1930′s (?)?

I’ve done different internet searches using different terms, and I haven’t been able to find a site that lists Lamps. The distinguishing bits about the lamp are:
* large, round/globe-type base
* ceramic/porcelain
* white background; black figure drawings in Greek style

I’ve used the key words :
“how do I”
lamp
decoration
Greek
illustration
identify
value

I know I can go to the library, but doing a search on the ‘net, from my apt., would be a whole lot more convenient.

Thanks.

Well, I don’t know where you can go for that, but if you do as some others have done before you and post a photo or two of your lamp here, someone will likely know about your lamp…

You may also want to check out Ebay Forums to help you identify your lamp.

Other than that, you’re pretty much going to have to see an antique dealer, who may be able to help you…
