I have 2 gagets that I want to find out just how they work.?

One is a Table Lamp which you push into soil where you can plant an ivy or something similar. Its plugged into the mains and when you touch the plant the light goes on or off. How ? The other is a globe that also plugs into the mains and when you position it correctly it floats in mid air. How.

The lamp I can explain more easily, Touch Lamps including your very interesting one pretty much all work on the same principle they have an IC Board (circuit board) designed to account for yoru plants resistance adn then shuts the light on when it detects electrical noise. Its not the actual resistance that shuts the lamp on and off but rather the spike in resistance when you touch the plant or lamp hence noise. The lamp itself is turned on or off using a a seperate device that can handle AC but controlled by the dc circuit usually a TRIAC, this isn’t the only way that this is done but I would consider in yoru situation it to be the most likely. The globe on the other hand is simple this device most likely runs actually on DC but the signal is changed either in the plug (if its large and square) or in the unit. Clean DC can produce a polarized north and south in an electromagnet (ac switchs polarity and therefore cannot do this easily or cheaply) the globe most likely has a neodyium (otherwise known as a rare earth magnet) embedded in the sphere and when the globe is positioned on the stand matchs polarity and therefore repels.

What kind of bulb do I need for my touch dimming lamp?

I threw away the old bulb without thinking, and put in a regular 55W bulb. Now the touch function no longer works. The lamp says it takes A type bulb up to 60W.. and the bulb in there now fits the description. It’s a little Table Lamp and now I can only turn it on by plugging it in. Help!

The bulb shouldn’t make a difference. The touch sensor might have gone bad.

why Touch Lamp dont take fluoroscent energy savings bulb?

i just got back from store learning that touch Table Lamp wont accept energy savings bulb,only incandescent one.why so?
what is dimmer switch?

You need to find a touch lamp that takes a three way bulb instead of one with a dimmer switch. You can find florescent bulbs that are for them. A three way lamp gives you a choice of three light levels.

A dimmer switch basically starts and stops the flow of electricity going into a lamp. This happens very rapidly (120 times a second) so an incandescent bulb works fine; you just turn the knob till you get the amount of light you want.

But a florescent bulb needs a (more or less) constant flow of current through it to keep it lit. If you put a dimmer switch on most of them, they will try to cycle off and on really really fast.
